Rocha da Luz Building
The Rocha da Luz project involves the construction of a collective residential building located in Praia da Luz, Lagos. The intervention resulted in the creation of a residential complex comprising 12 apartments and a communal swimming pool, developed in an area of approximately 1,800 m².
An old building previously stood on the site, which was completely demolished. After this initial phase, the land was prepared to receive a new building, designed to meet current requirements for comfort, functionality and construction quality.

Location and Urban Setting
Located in Praia da Luz, the building is part of a consolidated urban context, characterised by predominantly residential use and proximity to the coast. The location required special attention to the behaviour of materials and construction solutions, due to constant exposure to wind, salinity and ambient humidity.
Coastal environment constraints
Proximity to the sea directly influences the durability of buildings. In this project, solutions were considered that were appropriate for protecting the building elements, particularly in terms of exterior cladding, waterproofing and infrastructure protection, ensuring greater resistance to natural ageing caused by the maritime environment.
Type of Work: Construction of Multi-Family Building
The construction of a multi-family building requires a different technical approach than a single-family home, especially in terms of structural organisation, common networks, and the compatibility of specialities.
The main objective was to create functional and balanced dwellings, while ensuring the proper use of common areas and the privacy of each unit.
Organisation of fractions and common areas
The building was organised into several autonomous sections, with shared access points and properly structured vertical and horizontal circulation. The layout of the areas focused on the functionality of the spaces and efficiency in daily use by residents.

Swimming pool and outdoor areas
The communal swimming pool and outdoor areas were integrated into the housing complex, requiring specific drainage, waterproofing and connection to technical networks solutions, ensuring correct use and maintenance over time.
Construction Process
The work began with the demolition of the existing building, followed by the cleaning and levelling of the site. After preparing the plot, the foundations and main structure of the building were constructed.
Reinforced concrete foundations and structure
Foundations appropriate to the characteristics of the terrain were laid, followed by the reinforced concrete structure, which is responsible for the stability and strength of the building.
Technical Coordination and Execution on Site
The construction of a residential building with several units requires constant coordination between teams and specialities. Continuous technical monitoring ensured compliance with the project, quality control and the organisation of the different phases of the work.
Final Result
The Rocha da Luz project replaced an old building with a new residential building designed for permanent or seasonal use. The complex was designed to provide comfort, functionality and durability, meeting the current requirements for housing in a coastal area.
Careful execution and technical coordination throughout the project resulted in a well-structured building with solutions suited to everyday use and the environmental context of Praia da Luz.
